As I get more involved in fitness, I continuously find new people who motivate and inspire me, both in my daily life and on social media. This blog segment is dedicated to those bad ass guys and gals who give their all and have an admirable passion for fitness. These people have positively influenced me, and I hope they can do the same for you.
This week’s Monday Motivator is Brendan (@brendantlund). Brendan has competed in physique competitions, is an online coach, and is an inspiring individual not only in terms of fitness, but also in terms of life. I first started following Brendan, when his instagram handle was @brainsforbrawn. Then, a few weeks later, he made the decision to change his handle to his actual name and stop being a sort of Instagram “Batman.” I thought this was really cool. As fun as it can be to be known by a handle or ‘stage name’ of sorts, being who you actually are and having the ability to take credit for the amazing work you do is also important.
Then, I started listening to Amanda Bucci’s podcast, Bucci Radio, and while I was catching up on episodes, I came across one where Brendan was interviewed. I absolutely loved it. He and Amanda talk about everything from growing your social media to maintaining balance in your life to how the “Self love” phenomenon has the potential to actually have a negative impact on some people. I would 110% recommend going to take a listen.
Brendan is also starting his own podcast, BrainsforBrilliance. I’m definitely excited to see what it entails.
Something that I find incredibly admirable about Brendan, is his decision to make each caption for his Instagram photos, not only longer than what is typically used, but also meaningful. His bio reads, “Read a caption, I dare you.” And guess what, I dare you too. His captions are inspiring, insightful and thought provoking. So, go give your brain some food for thought.
Brendan is also known for his signature BrainsforBrawn Donut selfie. As he explains in his interview on Bucci Radio, this pose originally came up just because he didn’t have a picture to go with a caption he wanted to post. However, it has come much more than that. It is now used to “represent a restriction free lifestyle. Not simply a lifestyle with no food source restrictions, but no restrictions at all. To not let society tell you what you should and shouldn’t do, and to be unapologetically yourself.” I think this is something that a lot of people struggle with, and the fact that Brendan is encouraging people to truly embrace who they are, is something I love.
Every time a new post from Brendan comes across my feed, I’m always excited to read about his newest thoughts. He’s definitely someone I find to be a motivation in my daily life routine, both in terms of fitness, productivity, and living my life to the fullest. Can’t wait to see what he’s up to next!
